The first Subbuteo was sold only by mail.
The packaging was simple: in red cardboard (large boxes as the first
teams of the 70s) contained two lacquered boards on which were printed
the players that would were to be cut (between '49 and '50 the stickers
have had "pre-cutted" edges), 20 bases on which to place the plastic
players' cards, two rectangular brown bases for goalkeepers controlled
with a metal rod and, finally, a plastic ball. |

Doors were made of
metal wire (to assemble) finished with a "net" made of cardboard
(brown inside, green and black outside). Included were the rules of the
game, the order form for accessories and a piece of chalk that was used
to plot the field on an old wool army blanket (as recommended).
Curiosity: the shooting area (currently a rectangle) was semicircular. |
